I’ve invited Alexis Alvarez, one of the organizers of a charity anthology out Nov. 1st called Because Beards.
Renee Rose: Alexis, how did you come up with the idea for Because Beards–an anthology of romance stories featuring bearded heroes?
Alexis Alvarez: I approached a group of talented author friends and asked them, “Hey! What do you think about writing a romance anthology for charity?”
Once they said yes, we had to pick a theme. I brainstormed with Kacey Shea, and we tossed around different ideas: Sexy doctors. Sexy bikers. Sexy Elf-On-The-Shelf Enthusiasts. Sexy Elvis Impersonators On A Trapeze. Everything had been done, it seemed.
Then Kacey said, “What about…Because Beards? And they are all sexy guys who have beards?” And it was perfect.
Beards are hot right now in pop culture and literature. Many cover models are perfecting just the right level of scruff for their current shoots. (Male models, that is, lol.) Many authors are writing bearded heroes, and it seemed like a perfect match for a book in November dedicated to supporting men’s health.
Renee Rose: What do you find sexy about a man in a beard?
Alexis Alvarez: Well, personally, I love a man with a five-o’clock shadow, a man with dark eyes and a mysterious smile. I like thinking about how that stubble will feel when he kisses my belly button and works his way down. 😉
I should add that each man in our book has his own beard style. Some are neatly trimmed, some are luxurious, some are just stubble, and one is even clean-shaven. We have many perfectly groomed faces for you to enjoy.
Renee Rose: What charity does this set benefit? How much of the proceeds will go to the charity?
Alexis Alvarez: All of the money we make goes to The Movember Foundation, a charity that supports men’s health: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. We thought: Hey, we spend a lot of time reading about sexy fictional men. Let’s take this opportunity to ensure that the wonderful men in our real lives are healthy and have access to the life-saving programs that The Movember Foundation supports.
Renee Rose: How much do you hope to raise for the charity?
Alexis Alvarez: We’d like to raise at least two thousand dollars. But every cent that we collect will be used by the charity, and we’re proud no matter the amount.
Renee Rose; Tell me about your story in the collection.
Alexis Alvarez: Our romance stories span the range from sweet to sexy to super steamy. We have dominant cops, famous athletes with butts sexier than Beckham’s, CEOs, musicians, and doctors.
Renee Rose; How many stories are included in the anthology and what’s the overall tone, or is there one?
Alexis Alvarez: There are twenty one sizzling stories, and each has a happy ending. Many of them have details steamy enough to melt your Kindle and make you blush. We authors are excited to share our work with you, and hope you’ll love reading our stories as much as we loved writing them. Thanks for your support!
Blurb: Be it a little scruff or a full length beard, there’s nothing more attractive than a man with a well-groomed face. Masculine. Powerful. Sexy. Devoted. Lose yourself in this tantalizing collection of original short stories by your favorite romance authors in support of a great cause. Hipster CEO, bartender, best friend, baseball player—just to name a few—these men all have one thing in common: they’re bearded for your pleasure and deliver one hell of a happy ever after.
All proceeds from this anthology will be donated to The Movember Foundation, an organization that supports charities in the research and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer as well as other men’s health initiatives.

Fortune Favors the Beard by Alexis Alvarez
I got you a present.” I smile at him and bounce on my toes.
“Oh, you did?” His voice goes low and husky. “Can I unwrap it right now?” He undoes the top button of my blouse and flicks the material aside. “Can I guess what it is?” He drops a kiss onto my neck, letting his lips linger.
I close my eyes and sigh, enjoying the feel of his mouth and his hands on my body. “Of course. You get three tries.”
“Oh, I do? Just three?” He opens another button and cups my breast through the bra. “Here’s one.” He reaches back to squeeze my ass. “Two.” Then he strokes the front of my skirt right at the apex of my thighs, a touch that melts me even through the fabric. “And three. How about these three?”
“Good choices,” I murmur, grabbing both of his ass cheeks through his jeans. I’ll never get tired of his ass – so hard and sexy. “But there’s something else, too.”
“Something else? Really?” He bites my earlobe and I squeak out.
“A real thing! A present.”
“Oh, this is as real as it gets,” he argues, and smacks my ass once.
I yelp. “Something in a box.”
“I want the box,” he agrees, and laughs, rubbing more insistently.
I push his hand back. “First you can open this, though. Then you can have my…box. You’re gross.”
“You love it.” He’s arrogant and confident and he’s right. I do love it. But I really want to give him his present.
I grab a gift bag from the counter and thrust it at him. “Here. You can open it now.”
“For me?” His face lights up, eager, like a kid at Christmas, and he grabs out the fluffed up tissue paper and tosses it to the floor. “I still have no idea why you women put this crap in here.”
But he’s pawing through it to get to the prize. “What it is?” He pulls out the small black velvet box and shakes it. “I hope it’s a jeweled butt plug that I get to put into your ass.”
“Stop! It’s not that. If I get you that, you’re not going to find it in a box. I’ll surprise you by wearing it to bed one night.”
His hands freeze on the bag. “Really?” I’ve never heard a more interested voice.
