Have you always been searching for a way to celebrate the women in your life? Do you dread Valentine’s Day because you don’t get to tell the girls how much you care? No more. This year, participate in Galentine’s Day. What’s Galentine’s Day? “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast- style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”- Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation.

Spend the night before Valentine’s Day surrounded by all the women in your life. Hit the town, grab some dinner, catch a movie, or, if you’re like Leslie, you’ll create gift bags for each of your friends with a bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait of each of them made from the crushed bottles of their favorite diet soda, and a personalized 5,000 word essay of why they’re all so awesome. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party, having the girls sleep over, or going out to paint the town red, remember that girl-time is precious and Galentine’s Day is the best way to show them how much they mean to you. And don’t worry, the luxury of Galentine’s Day is that you’ll be able to have the romantic Valentine’s Day the next day with your beau.

Not sure what to do for your first Galentine’s Day?

1 – Have An Old Fashioned Sleep Over: Stay up all night (or at least past 11:00) watching John Hugh’s movies, eating junk food, and giving each other hideous makeovers. No boys allowed, of course.

2 – Go Shopping: Put everyone’s names in a hat with their favorite store. Pick a name, head to the mall, and buy your gal-pal a little something to let her know you appreciate her.

3 – Host a Potluck Dinner: Have the girls pitch in and bring their favorite dish to the party. For dessert, have everyone decorate their own cupcakes just the way they like.

4 – Make A Soundtrack: Create the quintessential soundtrack of your lives together and blast it till the party ends.

5 – Galentine’s Day Drinking Game: Last but not least, the Galentine’s Drinking Game is a staple of Galentine’s Day.

6 – If you’re not looking for a wild night, then this game is not for you, considering one of the rules is “Drink any time you hear the phrase ‘cat lady’.” Don’t deny it ladies, there’s always one.

7 – Have fun this Galentine’s Day with the girls and don’t forget to TREAT YO’SELF.
