Jeffery Self, the actor/writer who played Randy Lemon on 30Rock, is adding another notch to his belt as an author to watch. His new book 50 Shades of Gay is coming out this month from Riverdale/Magnus. His face is familiar to us from his work on Desperate Housewives, 90210, Hot in Cleveland, as well as 30Rock (which just happens to be the show we miss most right now), but this novel will give us something new: hot kinky sex between two compelling leading men.
In 50 Shades of Gay, the young celebrity blogger, Alex Kirby, interviews Taylor Grayson, a superstar leading man of mainstream Hollywood blockbusters. The fascinating Grayson also happens to be a closeted gay man who is anything but vanilla. Grayson draws the younger man into his inner circle, initiating him into a whole kinky world. This is when the younger man discovers that BDSM pleasures have shielded Grayson from having a real emotional connection with another man. But Kirby falls head over heels in love with the older, powerful, gorgeous man who has selected him for the sensual challenges of submission. Ultimately, Alex decides to experiment with the power differential between them and see if he can break through the imprisoning barriers that Grayson and his Hollywood handlers have built around him.
Here’s what Don Weise, editing Director of Riverdale’s GLBT imprint Magnus has to say about the new project: “When Jeffery’s book first came into the office, I was simultaneously charmed and aroused by this very sexy, clever riff on the 50 Shades phenomenon. I loved that 50 Shades of Gay contains so much hot sex that works for everyone—men and women of any sexual orientation. At the same time it’s a real love story about the trials of loving someone closeted and finding ways to be our authentic sexual selves.” That sounds like an invitation for everyone to read and enjoy. The book can be purchased (or you can simply ogle the cover) HERE
When asking the adorable and hilarious Self about his work, he shares with his usual self- deprecating charm, “Ever since moving to Los Angeles I’ve been fascinated by two things: frozen yogurt and closeted movie stars. There’s something so sexy and mysterious about both. So I decided to write a book about one of them.” Let’s just be glad he chose the right one, even if Liz Lemon might disagree.
