So, you’ve been writing about rock stars for most of your career with Daron’s Guitar Chronicles and the Struck by Lightning series. What’s different about this new SECRETS OF THE ROCK STARS series?

One thing that’s fun with SECRETS OF A ROCK STAR is each book will have a different guy in the band as hero. So we’ll meet the singer, the guitar player, the drummer, instead of concentrating on one guy. The band is called THE ROUGH and another thing that’s fun and different is they’re just starting to make it big. Unlike Daron, whose story starts with him a total unknown, or Struck by Lightning, where James is already the biggest rock star in the world, the guys in The Rough are hitting the charts for the first time and trying to deal with that fame for the first time.

How did you come up with the idea for the series?

My editor and I were talking about how in the wake of “50 Shades” everyone knows about BDSM now. But if there’s no shame in BDSM anymore, why don’t we know any famous celebrities who are into it? Lots of people are out about being gay or lesbian, but Dave Navarro is the only celebrity I can think of who is “out” about BDSM. (He even markets a leather guitar strap made by The Stockroom that doubles as a bondage device.) That got me thinking about Hollywood culture and the fact that there must be kinky celebrities. Where do they go to play? If something like the secret club I invented for the book doesn’t already exist I’ll be surprised!

Who inspired Axel in TAKING THE LEAD?

I dreamed him up in my own head. The cover designer wanted me to give an idea of what rock stars he looked like but I had to modify them. Jared Leto when he was in his “blond” phase might work, or imagine Mig Ayesa if he had done blond highlights. There’s a touch of Michael Hutchence of INXS in Axel, too, especially in how sensual he is on stage. Hutchence was pure sex with a microphone.

What can we expect from this series?

I expect each book in the series to ramp up the intensity by another notch. Each couple will have their own kinks and specialties that fit their personalities. Each heroine will be on a journey where she gains strength from her submission and each hero learns to connect deeply and emotionally through his mastery. That’s my ideal true love!

Is there a music track you were listening to while writing this?

I often have to steer away from listening to rock music while writing because I can’t listen to lyrics while writing! The words seep in too much. So I listened to a lot of Lindsey Sterling and movie soundtracks.

What else are you working on?

I just turned in the first book of a new paranormal/urban fantasy series that will be coming out in 2017 from Tor Books called The Vanished Chronicles! It’s about an underground cabal of secret ritual sex magic in New York City who recruit new members from the BDSM clubs. “Vampires” aren’t real, but a form of sexual blood magic that extends life is!
