Earlier last week, we covered the hopeful story of Jen Bulik, the 35-year-old hairdresser who had less than six months to live and quite a wedding to plan. This past weekend, over 40 local vendors created a magnificent wedding for the couple of six years.
The couple was married in a park near Bulik’s parents’ house in front of 125 members of her friends and family. Throughout the night, Jen changed in and out of dresses and wigs to surprise and please all her guests. For their reception, they had a New Orleans brass band and the newlyweds led a parade into the reception space. Guests ate barbeque, played cornhole, and danced the night away. The couple shared their first dance to an acoustic “Edge of Glory,” by Lady GaGa.
Erica Ota, the wonderful wedding planner who was the brains behind this amazing outpouring of generosity, said she couldn’t help but tear up when she watched the couple dance. Ota also coordinated a “wedding wish” fund to send the couple to a Hawaiian honeymoon. She has raised over $47,000 in their honor.
One wedding guest, Kristen Chappelle, put it perfectly: “I can’t picture Jeff without Jen, and I can’t picture Jen without Jeff. They are one.”
