This summer has been a shocking one for celebrity break-ups with someone of the most famous couples in Hollywood going their separate ways. It’s devastating for us to face the end of our favorite fairy tale relationships, but here’s a list of the divorces and separations of the summer thus far.
The most recent break-up in our line up is rockstar couple Gwen Stefani, 45, and Gavin Rossdale, 49. After 13 years of marriage, the couple announced their decision to file for divorce on Monday. In their statement, they said, “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.” In her filed petition for divorce, Stefani claimed that the two had “irreconcilable differences.” They have seen many bumps in their relationship for the last couple of years but it seems they’ve finally reached the end of the road. The couple has three children, Kingston, 9, Zuma, 6, and one-year-old son Apollo.
Perhaps the most tragic break-up we’ve heard is the separation of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog which was announced via Twitter by both parties yesterday afternoon. Both tweets read, “After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television.”
This statement was released during the Television Critics Association summer press tour which the two are using to promote their new ABC show, “The Muppets.” Despite the sudden and shocking news, it seems Kermit has already moved on. According to TV Line, he is dating a another pig, Denise. Allegedly, Denise also works at ABC, but in marketing, not on the stage. We’re not sure how Piggy has reacted to this breaking news but we are sad to see such a beautiful couple fall apart after so much time. Piggy and Kermit have had an on and off again relationship after Piggy announced their engagement during The Tonight Show on April 2, 1979. It just goes to prove the struggle of having your relationship beneath a spot light.
Country fans are devastated after the announcement of Miranda Lambert, 31, and Blake Shelton’s, 39, split. In a statement to the AP, their representatives said, “This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.” After being together for 5 years, the couple married in 2011. This is Shelton’s second divorce with his first being with Kaynette Gern in 2006. He is currently a star on the hit television show, “The Voice” and also has a successful music career.
Another country star, Reba McEntire, 60, and Narvel Blackstock, 58, have also announced their divorce after 26 years of marriage.According to McEntire’s website the couple has actually been separated for several months and are only now making the split official. A statement was also released regarding the divorce saying, “Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time.” Married in 1989, the couple has one son, Shelby who is currently married to singer, Kelly Clarkson. Blackstock also has three children an earlier marriage. In an interview with the Boot, McEntire once stated, “We highly respect each other. We like each other. We love each other, but that respect has to be there. I respect his judgment, and he respects mine. We respect each other. I think that is one of the strongest things in a relationship. You have to have respect for each other.”
Finally, our hearts are broken to learn that gorgeous Hollywood power couple Ben Affleck, 42, and Jennifer Garner, 43, are calling it quits. They announced their official split on June 30 and since then have made several statements regarding the break-up. “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they stated in a joint announcement, “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.” They made the announcement shortly after their 10th wedding anniversary. After meeting on the set of “Pearl Harbor” in 2001, the couple married in 2005. They also have three children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. In 2013, Affleck caused a bit of a stir regarding their relationship when he accepted an Oscar for his film Argo and thanked his wife for “working on our marriage.” He also said, ”there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
