Last week, I had the opportunity to see Aladdin on Broadway with someone special and let me tell you, this was one of the most perfect dates ever! Since Aladdin is one of our favorite Disney classics and we both love Broadway, this was obviously meant to be.
The cast did a wonderful job of bringing this Disney love story to life. Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed, who played Aladdin and Jasmine, really showed the wonders of the iconic magic carpet ride with a giant luminous moon facing their backs while surrounded by twinkling stars. Also James Monroe Iglehart, who played the vivacious and comical Genie, did a stupendous job at reminding us that Genie is all of ours favorite reason to watch Aladdin. They definitely deserved the standing ovation they received. What made this production so amazing was the use of extra songs and characters that were cut out of the original movie, it was like watching extended version that everyone missed out on. At first, I was a bit confounded by the characters and songs that were new to me since I know the entire script by heart, but I immediately got into it because they gave me new reasons to love Aladdin.
The effects were so surprising and amazing, the choreography was super fun to watch, and the costumes were so…sparkly, I enjoyed every minute of it. What also made my experience at Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway so great was holding the hand of my special someone and resting my head on his shoulder during the entire show. Aladdin on Broadway is spectacular and when you decide to go see it, don’t forget to bring your Aladdin or Jasmine.
