In April 2008, Suzanne Lea lost the love of her life, Bryan, to a fatal heart attack. As Christmas came that year, she and her two sons were overwhelmed by heartbreak and pain of feeling abandoned by her community who wouldn’t help the new widow during the Christmas season. However, her spirits rose and she was overjoyed, as Lea and her family began to receive anonymous gifts inspired by “The Twelve Days of Christmas” song, which started with a bowlful of pears.
Lea felt so uplifted that it had inspired her to do the same for others. She founded the Las Vegas – based charitable organization, In 12 Days, whose goal is to bring the same happiness Lea had to local citizens that she finds through schools, religious groups, and community organizations who face similar hardship and pain.
Suzanne Lea has an incredibly inspiring story. The concern and love she found, after facing such a tragedy, encouraged her to do the same for others. If that is not what the holidays are all about, then I don’t know what is.
